At the extraordinary general assembly of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) on Wednesday with the participation of PM Aripov and presidential adviser on youth, science, education, health and sports Abdujabar Abduvakhitov, Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov has been elected NOC President, the committee said.

Umid Akhmadzhonov, who headed the committee since January 2018, resigned at his own will. He will remain the first vice-president of the Uzbekistan Football Association and the first vice-president of the National Paralympic Association.

The Prime Minister said that Shavkat Mirziyoyev had set big goals for the NOC at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

In 2001-2005 Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov served as the Tashkent city mayor. Since July 2017 he has been working as the Director of the Authority for Construction, Reconstruction and Overhaul of Facilities of Particularly Important Social, Cultural and Historical Significance, under the Cabinet of Ministers. Concurrently he is the chairman of the Fencing Federation of Uzbekistan.
