Four winter sports federations: Federation of Ice Hockey, Federation of Figure Skating and Short Track, Federation of Curling and Federation of Skiing which will also include snowboarding, skiing, freestyle, ski jumping and other winter sports, will be created in Uzbekistan, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) said.
On Wednesday, NOC, Committee for Physical Culture and Sports, Association of Winter Sports and sponsors held a meeting devoted to development of winter sports in Uzbekistan.
At the meeting it was noted that Uzbekistan athletes have not achieved successes in winter sports, with the only medalist of the winter Olympics from Uzbekistan being Lina Cheryazova, who won gold medal in 1994 in Lillehammer Olympics.
An initiative group was set up at the meeting, which will handle the organizing of the four federations, hire experts and also search for investors and sponsors.
