Uzbekistan defeated Iran in the second edition of CAFA Nations Cup, with Xojiakbar Alijonov scoring the goal goal of the match in the 120th minute at the Olympic City Stadium in Tashkent. However the result was overshadowed by a series of controversial refereeing decisions.

Just five minutes into the match Iran’s Arya Yousefi was shown a very arguable red card.

Eldor Shomurodov had missed a penalty in the 105th minute. However Iran were refused a penalty kick when Alijoniv fouled on Nurefkan in the 76the minute in the penalty area.

The referee from Kyrgyzstan first gave a red card to Xojiakbar Alijonov then cancelled it after review in the 86 the minute..

It was Uzbekistan’s first beating of Iran in the last 13 years but most Uzbeks felt almost no joy from the win if judged by social media comments.
