Starting from November 1, digital television operators of Uzbekistan have included a number of foreign TV channels in different languages in their packages. Prior to this, Uzbeks, in addition to domestic channels, could watch mainly Russian channels.
UzDigital TV announced the addition of five TV channels available in Tashkent, Tashkent and Syrdarya provinces - BBC World News (UK), CNN International, Bloomberg (USA), CGTN (China) and TRT Avaz (Turkey).
While Fox News, CNBC, SkyNews, France 24, Belarus 24 and other international TV channels are available online.
In April, Gazeta.uz published a column by Komil Jalilov “While our media is silent, foreign ones have taken over the minds of Uzbkes.” The public has repeatedly expressed concern about the huge influence of Russian TV channels on the Uzbekistan audience.
