The IX Tashkent International Biennale of Contemporary Art will kick off on October 24 to last through October 28. It will bring together artists from 35 countries who will showcase projects in the areas of modern art and contemporary art. The organizers, represented by the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, include painting, graphics and sculpture to the first one, installations, video and photo art, and conceptual art to the second.

“Virtually all fine arts, from realism to pop art will be there, because we need to know whether we are heading in the right way, what successes and shortcomings we have, what we can showcase to the world. We will be able to get answers to these questions when we compare works of local artists with those from outer world, hear the opinion of colleagues from other countries. The Biennale will provide such an opportunity,” said Akmal Nuriddinov, chairman of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, at a press conference dedicated to the upcoming start of the main cultural event of autumn.

The theme of the ninth Tashkent Biennale is the relationship between the artist and society. Art projects will feature visual reflections on the dependence of a person of art on the outside world, the problems of "social order", freedom of creating, etc.

The Biennale program includes seven exhibitions that will introduce the work of contemporary artists from Uzbekistan, Karakalpakstan, Central and East Asia, and European countries. They will unfold in the Central Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Arts, the Gallery of Fine Arts of Uzbekistan (NBU), the Tashkent House of Photography, the International Caravanserai of Culture named after Ikuo Hiroyama and the Museum of Oriental Miniature Art named after Kamoliddin Behzod.

Lectures and master classes from invited curators will be held at the National Institute of Arts and Design named after Kamoliddin Behzod.

The platform for dialogue will be the international scientific-practical conference “The Artist and Society. Concepts of the Art of the Future”, which will bring together the participants of the Biennale at a round table on October 26. The next day, foreign guests will leave for Samarkand. According to Akmal Nuriddinov, the purpose of the trip is to show them "successes in the fields of art, economics and historical heritage."
