Turkish and Russian leaders Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Vladimir Putin may discuss the grain deal on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Samarkand on September 15-16, RIA Novosti said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Putin said that the world could experience an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe due to the fact that the West exports most Ukrainian grain to own countries, and not to countries in Africa that are in need.
According to him, it may be worth discussing restrictions on this route with the Turkish leader.
“Yes, this topic will be discussed,” a diplomatic source said, when asked if the grain deal was on the table of the expected meeting of the two leaders in Samarkand.
Multilateral agreements were signed in Istanbul on July 22 on lifting restrictions on the supply of Russian products for export and on Russia's assistance in the export of Ukrainian grain.
The deal, which was signed by representatives of Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UN, involves the export of Ukrainian grain, food and fertilizer across the Black Sea from three ports, including Odessa.
