In early September, the U.S. Treasury Department included Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and a number of other states in the list of countries through which goods, the import of which is limited by sanctions, could be reaching Russia and Belarus.

The U.S. Ambassador to Tashkent Daniel Rosenblum, in an interview with Alter Ego, said that the list mainly covered countries that maintain active business relations with Russia.

“So this is regarded as a potential risk, this was not and should not be an allegation or evidence to this happening, this is just seen as a risk,” he explained.

According to him, the government of Uzbekistan "confirmed very clearly to us, and I think publicly, that they want to comply with the sanctions and do not want Uzbek companies to be subject to secondary sanctions."

“And they also don't want Uzbekistan to become a country of evasion, which is used as a point to circumvent sanctions. And they consulted very carefully with our experts on the sanctions regime, with our Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce ... It seems that they also consulted with private law firms, experts on this issue. So I think the government is committed to the idea of not facilitating sanctions evasion,” the diplomat said.

As reported earlier that the U.S. State Department imposed restrictions on the company Procomplektlogistic from Uzbekistan for violating the sanctions regime imposed against Russian enterprises. The company, along with companies from other countries, was included in the "black list" on suspicion of "supporting Russia’s military-industrial complex."
