The General Prosecutor's Office has decided to release 24 people detained during the events of July 1-2 in Karakalpakstan autonomy under the guarantee of the public, the press service of the Ombudsman said.

The decision was made on the basis of the proposal of the parliamentary commission to investigate the events and at the request of the Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan.

The preventive measure for these suspects "on the basis of the principle of humanism" has been changed from detention to house arrest with public supervision, the report said.

“The decision took into account the repention of the suspects, the presence of minor children, the difficult situation in families, including the fact that some detainees are the only breadwinner in the family,” the report says.

At the same time, it was not specified what violations or crimes these citizens are suspected of committing and what they repent of.

The report notes that investigation for a “comprehensive, deep and objective investigation” of the events are ongoing.
