The visit of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Samarkand was not discussed or raised. Rahmatulla Nurimbetov, Uzbekistan's national coordinator for SCO affairs, told reporters at a briefing on August 26.

The question of Bashar al-Assad's possible visit to the summit of the organization, which will be held on September 15-16, was raised in connection with the report of the Iranian Tasnim agency. The sources informed that Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Bashar al-Assad to attend the SCO Samarkand Summit.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in early August that he intended to attend the upcoming SCO Summit September in Uzbekistan at the invitation of Vladimir Putin, Anadolu reported.
