The United States is ready to help stabilize the Afghan economy, and the country's government is working on the issue of unfreezing the country’s assets, the U.S. Special Envoy for Afghanistan Thomas West said.
“The United States is one of the largest donor of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, having provided $1 billion since August 2021. Washington is also working with the Central Bank and the government of Afghanistan to unfreeze public funds,” West said July 26 at the international conference “Afghanistan: Security and Economic Development” in Tashkent.
The diplomat assured of Washington's commitment to the course of stabilizing the Afghan economy.
According to him, thanks to the actions of the international community, it was possible to prevent the gravest humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and survive the winter.
Earlier it was reported that the Acting Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov spoke in favor of unfreezing Afghanistan's financial assets abroad.
The Taliban leadership has already asked Washington several times to unfreeze Afghan state reserves, however, as US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said, decisions by the US and other Western countries to provide financial assistance to Afghanistan and unfreeze its assets in foreign banks will be made on the basis of further steps by the Taliban.
