Uzbekistan plans to buy high-speed electric trains from Spain. Negotiations on the purchase of 4 high-speed electric trains were held in Madrid.

With the support of the Embassy of Uzbekistan, a meeting of the delegation of Uzbekistan Railways was organized at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism of Spain, Dunyo reported.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the issue of preferential loans for the purchase of 4 Talgo-250 high-speed electric trains from the FIEM’s internationalization fund.

It was noted that 6 high-speed electric trains produced by the Spanish company Patentes Talgo SLU have been purchased by Uzbekistan Railways. The last batch was delivered in 2021. To finance the projects, a 30-year loan with a 10-year grace period was taken from the Enterprise Internationalization Fund.

The Spanish side was given detailed information about the implementation of Bukhara-Urganch-Khiva railway electrification project. After the commissioning of this high-speed line, it is planned to purchase 4 additional electric trains.

The parties discussed the possibility of organizing the purchase of Talgo-250 trains at the expense of a soft loan from the FIEM Fund to finance the project.

As a result of the negotiations, the parties agreed to continue working on this issue at the level of experts.
