In the first year-half, the rates of injuries and deaths in road traffic accidents, as well as their total number, decreased in Uzbekistan, the press service of the traffic police reported.
In total, 3,559 road accidents were officially registered in January-June (for the same period in 2021 - 3,753, a decrease by 194, or 5.2%), in which 2,775 people were injured (2,842, -67, -2.4%) and died 784 people (911, -127, -13.9%).
The reason for 22.9% of all accidents, or 818 of them, was the excess of the speed limit. In 7.1% of cases, or 254, the inexperience of the driver which led to the accident, 5.1%, or 182, non-observance of the distance, 3.7%, or 133, violation of the requirement to yield to a pedestrian, 2.9%, or 105, - ignoring a traffic signal or road signs, 2.8%, or 101, - violation of the rules of overtaking, 1%, or 35, - drunk driving and 8.7%, or 313, - other reasons. These are the so-called subjective causes of accidents, the share of which was 54.5% - 1941.
1618 road accidents, or 45.5%, were classified as objective reasons. These are the absence of a pedestrian crossing - 11% (393), bike paths - 8.3% (298), traffic direction separators - 8.1% (289), lighting - 5.2% (186), wet or slippery surface - 1, 9% (68). Among such reasons, the service also attributed (literal translation) the absence of fences restricting the movement of pedestrians - 4.6% (167), the unsuitability of roads or streets for the flow of traffic, i.e. their narrowness - 4.3% (155) and the lack of elevated or underground passages - 1.7% (62).
Nearly half of all accidents - 46.8%, or 1648 - were associated with car collisions with pedestrians. Car collisions accounted for 31.8% (1132) of crashes, cyclist collisions 8.4% (298), car rollovers 5.3% (190), barrier collisions 4.4% (156) and collisions with standing transport — 1.2% (41).
The vast majority of accidents occurred with the participation of cars - 84% (2990). Trucks were involved in 10.4% (373) of crashes, cyclists in 10.3% (372) and buses were involved in 1.3% (47).
In 2021, after a decrease in statistics in the pandemic year 2020, the accident rate in the country increased sharply: the number of accidents - by 43%, deaths as a result of road accidents - by 24%, injuries - by 40%. The main causes of the accident were speeding and improper organization of traffic.
