On July 19, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the visiting Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili. The parties considered prospects for promoting joint projects and programs of cooperation between the two countries, primarily in the field of transport and logistics, trade, and industrial cooperation.
Particular attention was paid to the issues of effective use of the transit potential, including the infrastructure of the ports of Poti and Batumi in the transportation of domestic cargo.
The existing opportunities for the implementation of joint projects in the textile, electrical, food, pharmaceutical and other industries are indicated, taking into account the favorable conditions created in the free industrial zones on the territory of Uzbekistan and Georgia. In addition, mutual interest in enhancing cultural and humanitarian exchange and increasing the tourist flow was noted.
An agreement was reached to hold a regular meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission and adopt a road map for further expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.
Also, Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Sorena Sattari. During the meeting, issues of further expansion of the Uzbek-Iranian multifaceted relations were considered. Particular attention was paid to the promotion of joint programs and projects in the field of science, innovation and technology.
The opportunities for expanding practical cooperation in the field of joint scientific and applied research, attracting the private sector to finance exploration and venture initiatives, supporting interuniversity programs, implementing joint projects in the field of bio- and nanotechnologies, the IT sector, pharmaceutical and other industries were also emphasized.
An agreement was reached on the adoption of a "road map" for implementation of joint decisions and signed agreements, including within the framework of the upcoming Uzbek-Iranian innovation forum and business events.
