Officials of the Volleyball Federation and others are suspected of embezzling public funds on an especially large scale, the Prosecutor General's Office reported on Tuesday.
As per the order of the former Minister of Sports, 445 million soums were contributed from the budget for the federation to hold a 23-day training camp with the participation of 54 athletes. In fact, only a 10-day camp was held with 231 million soums embezzled.
In addition, 29 athletes who were not included in the national team and its reserve, nevertheless, were sent to various sports camps, due to which 75 million soums were unreasonably spent.
During the pre-investigation probe, 120 million soums was compensated to the budget.
A criminal case has been launched, with an investigation underway.
