In recent years, Uzbek-American ties have been deepening and mutually beneficial cooperation has been developing. This can be seen in the sharp increase in the number of reciprocal visits by officials of the two countries this month and the agreements reached.

In particular, on June 15-17, the delegation of Uzbekistan headed by the Chairman of the Senate - Chairman of the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings Tanzila Norbaeva visited the United States and held a number of meetings.

Earlier, the Senate Speaker met with Uzra Zeya, Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights. During the meeting, the parties discussed the elimination of forced labor in the country, the prevention and suppression of human trafficking, women's and gender equality, the activities of the media.

The US official also welcomed Uzbekistan's rise to second place (TIER-2) in the State Department's Trafficking in Persons Report and expressed hope that these efforts would continue.

Tanzila Norbaeva also met with Congress’ Uzbekistan Caucus leaders, Democrat Vicente Gonzalez and Republican Trent Kelly.

The congressmen noted that they would continue to call for co-authors of a special resolution of the US Congress to support the independence and sovereignty of Uzbekistan.

“We currently have 21 votes, and for this document to be approved by the U.S. Congress, we need the support of four more congressmen. "We are ready to use all our efforts and resources to adopt the resolution on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries," Kelly said.

The US lawmaker also assured that the US Congress is committed to passing a bill to end the Jackson-Vanik amendment against Uzbekistan. This is very important because it will help establish a non-discriminatory normal trade relationship between the two countries.

During the visit, the Uzbek delegation presented to the Library of Congress a collection of books from the project "Cultural heritage of Uzbekistan in world collections."

According to Julia Hughes, President of the US Fashion Industry Association (USFIA), who met with Uzbek officials during the visit, Uzbekistan has the potential to become a leading supplier of textiles in the face of changing supply chains from traditional markets.

Tanzila Norbaeva also held talks with Rachel Fogelstein, a senior adviser on the White House Gender Policy Council, and Katrina Fatovat, director of the State Department’s Office of Global Women’s Affairs. The State Department spokesperson supported the initiative to hold the C5 + 1 Women's Business Forum in Uzbekistan with leading women and businesswomen from the United States and Central Asia.

The United States has long stated its strong support for Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO. This was stated during a meeting between Tanzila Norbaeva and US Deputy Trade Representative (USTR) Christopher Wilson in Washington on July 18.

"The United States is committed to supporting Uzbekistan's efforts to join the WTO," Wilson said. In this regard, he said that the American side is ready to participate in the 5th meeting of the working group on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO. Recognizing the complexity of the process, Wilson said that the United States will continue to support him in this matter.

In addition, the Deputy Trade Representative noted that the USTR is interested in further expanding cooperation with Uzbekistan in supporting common priorities in the framework of the Framework Agreement on Trade and Investment (TIFA) between Central Asia and the United States.

During the meeting at the US Department of Labor, the parties discussed the implementation of the $ 2 million project "Improving Transparency and Accountability in the Cotton Industry of Uzbekistan."

In addition to political relations with the United States, relations have become more active in other areas.

For example, Sherzod Shermatov, the current Minister of ICT in the United States, is holding talks with representatives of major companies such as Apple, VISA, Plug and Play, Coursera on the development and cooperation of the IT sector in Uzbekistan. The minister also met with representatives of USAID, the World Bank and citizens of Silicon Valley.

In addition, the Commander of the US Central Command, General Michael Kurilla, recently visited Uzbekistan and met with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, officials from the Security Council and the Ministry of Defense.
