Minister of Defense of Uzbekistan Bakhodir Kurbanov attended the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Defense of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the formation of the CMD on June 24 in Moscow, reported the Internet portal of the CIS.
The meeting was also attended by delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
Representatives of the defense departments discussed the military-political situation developing on the borders of the Commonwealth states, noting the need to expand cooperation on joint response to challenges and threats to national security.
The joint statement of the council members noted that the cooperation of the CIS countries in the military sphere was open, non-bloc in nature and was not directed against third countries, and was based on stable partnerships, mutual respect for national interests, common approaches to the development of military cooperation, the statement said.
Issues of multilateral military cooperation in the development of joint military systems were considered at the meeting. Reportedly, the parties agreed the ways for building a joint (unified) communication system and improving the functioning of a unified system of state radar identification, tasks have been defined for the formation of a joint engineering unit for humanitarian demining and ensuring flight safety of aviation of the armed forces of the Commonwealth countries, and issues of financing the unified air defense system of the CIS.
A program of joint work to improve the metrological support of the armed forces of the CIS states until 2025 was approved.
The Council of Ministers also supported the holding of the second military sports games of cadets in Uzbekistan in 2023.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the defense ministers of the CIS countries analyzed "the military-political situation in the world, taking into account the Russian special operation in Ukraine."
