Five people were convicted for the death of 47-year-old German citizen of Afghan origin Abdulvahab Kayuumi, who had a business in Djambay district of Samarkand province, the Zamon program of Sevimli TV channel reported. The story was published by the press service of the provincial police department.

The wife of the deceased, Nezahat Kayuumi, arrived from Germany to attend the trial as the injured party. She said that for her husband, Uzbekistan had become a homeland. When asked to return to Germany, Abdulvahab Kayuumi, in response, invited his family to Uzbekistan and said that he had a lot to do in this country. “After he started his business, he didn’t travel much to Germany,” the woman said.

According to the story, five residents of the district broke into Kayuumi's rented house wearing masks. They disconnected the house from the power supply, CCTV cameras and attacked him. The defendants hit him with sticks and metal objects, breaking his arms and legs. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

One of the defendants, who worked as a taxi driver, said that they tried to take drugs from the victim.

Another defendant, who already had a criminal record, was invited to the house of a German citizen as an electrician. After completing the work, he noticed he had a large amount of money and planned the theft. He invited four more accomplices, whom he informed about plans to steal two bags of drugs. However, they could not find money in the house.

The Dzhambai District Court for Criminal Cases found the defendants guilty under Robbery by an organized group or in its interests and Deliberate grievous bodily injury that caused the death of the victim charges.

The head of the criminal group was sentenced to 19 years in prison, three of his accomplices were handed 16-18 years in prison. The taxi driver who took them to the house of the deceased was sentenced to 13 years.
