Revenues from the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will be no less than from Kumtor and Kambarata HPP-1, said by the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov at a meeting with residents of the Toktogul district of Jalal-Abad region.
He added that a feasibility study for the project was currently being developed.
“If this process is completed by autumn, construction of the road will begin next year. If the three countries work together, this road will be completed in 3-4 years,” Zhaparov said.
Earlier, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov said that the projec would begin this fall.
The initiative to build the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway was announced in the late 90s, but has not been implemented since then.
In 2002, Beijing developed a feasibility study for the future network and determined its direction. According to the plan, the road was supposed to pass through the Torugart pass, pass through Arpa, pass through the Uzgen region to the city of Karasuu and from there to Uzbekistan. Its total length was to be 268 km.
In 2017, a trilateral working group on the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan road was established, and three different options for its implementation were reported.
