The government has approved amendments to traffic rules which will take effect on May 1 of this year. According to the document:
- in residential areas, the maximum speed limit shall be 70 km/h. However, by decision of the republican commission in Tashkent, Nukus and regional centers, the maximum speed in some places may be limited to 60 km/h;
- near schools and educational institutions (at a distance of 300 meters) the maximum speed shall not be higher than 30 km/h;
- in residential areas and adjacent areas (court yards between apartment buildings) - no higher than 20 km/h.
In addition, transportation of goods in cars shall be allowed if the height of cargo on the trunk, fixed on their roof, is not higher than 1 meter (except for the transportation of bicycles), and the length does not exceed 0.5 meters from the dimensions of the car.
In all cases, trucks, with the exception of certain cases established by traffic rules, must move only on the right lane.
Drivers were also forbidden to park vehicles on bends, as well as within a distance of 30 meters before and after them.
At night and in cases of insufficient visibility, cyclists moving on a carriageway without a cycle path must wear a reflective vest or outerwear with reflective elements.
