Uzbek fencer, Zukhriddin Qodirov, won a gold medal at the World Junior and Cadets Saber Championships on April 2-10 in Dubai. He became the first world fencing champion, the National Olympic Committee said.

“The feeling of winning is very strange, and today every bout was very difficult. I want to thank my mother, father, sister, brother and everyone in my country who helped me achieve this result,” Kadyrov said.

Team leader Zainab Daiibekova won a bronze medal in saber. In the semi-finals, she lost 15:8 to the representative of the United States, Magda Skarbonkevish, who eventually won the tournament.
