Skype is now accessible in Uzbekistan. The messenger was excluded from the register of violators of the Personal data law, to which it was included in July 2021.
This was confirmed by the press service of the Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies and Communications. The resumption of the work of the messenger is "the result of talks with Skype," the Ministry of Information and Communications Committee highlighted.
The ministry added that work was underway to gradually restore access to other services included in the register. Now four resources remain in it - Twitter, TikTok, VKontakte and WeChat.
According to the law, foreign companies must place servers that process personal data of Uzbeks in the country. An amendment to this effect was signed by the President in January last year. It came into effect from mid-April 2021.
