A conference of special representatives of the EU and Central Asian countries for Afghanistan kicked off in Tashkent, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

The parties are scheduled to discuss international and regional efforts for a peaceful resolution of the Afghan crisis, the active involvement of Afghanistan in regional integration processes, the economic recovery of the country and the implementation of various projects on its territory.

In his remarks, Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev focused on the main aspects of Uzbekistan's policies towards Afghanistan, including the need to establish a constructive dialogue with the new authorities of the country.

“The meeting participants, undescoring their concern about the difficult humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, called on other states to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of this country nad pointed to the need for the new Afghan authorities to keep their promises and international obligations to create a government based on broad representation, respect the rights of women and national minorities, and also prevent the country's territory from becoming a haven for international terrorists.

In addition, the special representatives expressed support for the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to create a multifunctional transport and logistics hub in Termez to deliver humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

An agreement was reached to continue holding a dialogue of this format on a regular basis as a platform for consultations and cooperation to support the Afghan people.
