Deputy PM/Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov met with Deputy Head of the Caretaker Government of Afghanistan Abdul Salam Hanafi in Kabul.
The parties considered the implementation progress of the agreements reached during the visit of the Afghan delegation in Termez in October 2021 in the areas of border security, cooperation in investment, trade, energy, international cargo transportation and transit, education and the humanitarian fields.
In particular, the parties considered the goals aimed at increasing the two-way trade and eliminate existing trade and transport barriers. In this context, Deputy PM Umurzakov proposed to tap the potential of the Termez International Trade Center, which hosts a logistics center, production and storage facilities, product distribution points and the necessary infrastructure on its territory.
Abdul Salam Hanafi expressed its readiness to support Uzbekistan’s initiatives to implement joint infrastructure projects in Afghanistan aimed at increasing the transport and transit potential of the countries. In particular, an agreement was reached on joint work to develop mutually acceptable conditions for the transit of vehicles and goods moving through the territory of Afghanistan, with the prospect of increasing its transit throughput through the introduction of alternative transportation routes.
At the meeting, the parties expressed reciprocal readiness to continue active wotk aimed at establishing and strengthening ties between Afghanistan and the countries of Central Asia.
