Tehran hosted a meeting of the co-chairs of the Uzbek-Iranian intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation between the Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan S. Umurzakov and the Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyed Reza Fatemi Amin.

The parties considered the current work progress to create the necessary conditions for increasing the Uzbek-Iranian two-way trade and reviewed the preparation for the signing of the draft preferential trade agreement between Uzbekistan and Iran were, as a result of which mutually acceptable solutions were developed and agreed upon.

The parties came to a common position on the need to fully tap the trade potential, in particular, highlighting the existing opportunities for increasing supplies of food and agricultural products that are in demand in the markets of the two countries. An agreement was also reached to expedite the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the customs authorities of the two countries on the exchange of electronic information on the movement of goods and vehicles between the two countries.

In addition, other issues of bilateral economic cooperation were considered during the meeting, including those on the agenda of the 14th meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
