Fazliddin Umarov was appointed Samarkand city mayor at an extraordinary session of the city council of people's deputies on Thursday, the provincial governor’s office said in a statement.
Former mayor of Samarkand city Boburmirzo Oblakulov was dismissed due to transfer to another job. He had been in charge of the city since May 2019.
Fazliddin Umarov, 44, graduated from the Tashkent State Economic University with an undergraduate degree in Accounting and Audit (2001), and a graduate degree in State Taxes and Fees at the Tax Academy (2006).
He began his career in 1999 as a cashier at the training and advisory center "Ustoz Consulting" in Tashkent. Later, in 1999-2006, he worked as a senior inspector, chief economist at the State Tax Authority of Tashkent.
From 2006 to 2015, he held the positions of Chief Inspector, Head of Department, Head of Department of the State Tax Committee.
In 2015-2017, he headed the sector in the Ministry of Finance, in 2017-2019 he worked as a leading specialist, chief inspector of the Accounts Chamber, in 2019-2021 - deputy chairman of the State Tax Committee.
Since January 2021, he served as First Deputy Chairman of the State Tax Committee/Director of the Agency for Cadastre under the committee.
As part of a visit to the Samarkand province on February 10, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev sacked 10 officials, including the head of the regional department of the Central Bank, mayors and chiefs of police departments in a number of districts and others. Some of them may be prosecuted for corruption.
