On February 16, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Measures to establish protected natural areas Resolution. As per the document, Central Kyzylkum natural park on a total area of 1.2 million hectares will be formed in the Uchkuduk district of the Navoi province, and Aktau-Tamdy state reserve in the Tamdy district on a total area of 40,000 hectares.
The sources of financing for the park and reserve in 2022 are the funds of the Fund for Ecology, Environmental Protection and Waste Management of the State Committee for Ecology. Starting from 2023, funds from the local budget of the Navoi province will join the financing.
The State Ecology Committee was also instructed to hire staff for the Central Kyzylkum National Natural Park and the Aktau-Tamdy State Reserve from qualified specialists.
The resolution underscored that the total area of protected natural areas in the country almost doubled in 2018-2021, the Ugam-Chatkal State Biosphere Reserve, the Khorezm National Natural Park and the South Ustyurt National Natural Park, as well as the Sudochye-Akpetki state reserve.
