President’s draft Ratification of an International Treaty decree on the agreement between Uzbekistan and Russia on early reporting of a nuclear accident and the exchange of information in the field of nuclear and radiation safety has been announced.

The draft was developed by the State Committee for Industrial Safety in order to early reporting a nuclear accident and to implement the internal procedures required for it to take effect under the agreement between Uzbekistan and Russia on the exchange of information in the field of nuclear and radiation safety.

The agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan S. Umrzakov during the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Russia on 19 November 2021.

The agreement consists of an intro and 9 articles, provides for advancing cooperation in the field of radiation and nuclear safety, and regulates the early exchange of bilateral information in order to minimize cross-border consequences in the event of a nuclear accident.

The treaty serves to:

  • receive information in the field of emergency response and radiation safety in a timely and reliable manner;
  • predict changes in the radiation situation depending on the development of the accident;
  • promptly assess the impact of radiation accidents on public health and the natural environment;
  • quickly present to each other analyses and forecasts on the changes in the radiation situation.
