President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to develop Uzbekistan’s electric vehicles industry development strategy, said on Monday the presidential press service following the government meeting on the development of the Uzbek car industry.

“As you know, the production of electric vehicles is developing rapidly in the world. In 2021, the share of EVs in the auto market doubled. He stressed: "To have any chance to keep up in this sector we have to act now, given the technical requirements and standards, localization issues".

In October, the Uzbek company Central Asia Motors announced that it plans to assemble several models of Chinese electric vehicles at the end of 2021. The project was estimated at $50 million. The company expected that by the end of 2022 the plant in Ferghana would reach full capacity and produce 10,000 electric vehicles a year. Due to the insufficient number of charging stations in the country, at the first stage, all models will be hybrid.
