President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a government meeting on February 14 instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to develop a draft resolution on reducing customs duties on car imports by 2 times within three days, president’s spokesman Sherzod Asadov said.

According to the report, we are talking about reducing duties from 30% to 15%.

At the meeting, the president emphasized that in order to meet the growing domestic demand, it is necessary to produce at least 160,000 cars in the first half of the year.

He also instructed to introduce control over the timely delivery of components necessary for the production of 275,000 cars by the end of the year.

“At the same time, the population is now waiting for positive changes in the wake of increase in supply in the car market,” he said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the industry leaders to:

  • reduce the cost by at least 5%, carry out import substitution of products worth $100 million;
  • localize production of 600 types of components within 23 projects and increase the level of localization from 48% to 56%;
  • launch three projects with an investment of $336 million - the production of new Tracker and Onix models and the production of new engines.

Based on domestic demand, it is planned to export cars worth $410 million in 2022.

At the meeting, he underscored that this figure is significantly lower than the available capacity in the industry. Therefore, he instructed to send more cars to the domestic market and increase annual exports to $500 million through components.

He highlighted the expediency of introducing the experience of selling components through large retail chains of Russia and Kazakhstan to other countries.
