Finland has approved the grant to Uzbekistan for the project: Strengthening the Uzbekistan meteorology potential, Dunyo news agency reported.
The total amount of the grant is 2 million euros (2.24 million US dollars) for a period of 2022-2025.
The project provides for enhancing the capacity of the Center for Hydrometeorological Service of Uzbekistan (Uzhydromet), training employees in advanced skills, including forecasting natural disasters, increasing the availability of information services in the industry, and encouraging adaptation to climate change.
The responsible authority from the Finnish side is the Finnish Meteorological Institute, from the Uzbek side - Uzgidromet.
The grant was developed taking into account the requirements of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Recently, Finland has included Uzbekistan in the list of priority policy partners in support of development in the countries of Central Asia as part of its new Strategy for the region until 2024. It is noted that Finland intends to support projects in three main areas - the rule of law, sustainable economic development and improved management of natural resources.
The planned total amount of assistance to Uzbekistan, as well as Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, is about 28 million dollars (25 million euros).
