The President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a pardon decree, with pardon measures applied in relation to 63 citizens, Uzbekistan 24 reported.
Of those pardoned, 44 convicts were unconditionally released, while, the sentences of 19 persons were cut.
The report notes that all the pardoned were prepared for release, they learned the profession and received certificates of training in various specialties in penal colonies.
The relevant ministries and departments have been instructed to help those released for social adaptation, get jobs and find a worthy place in society.
The pardon tradition on the occasion of various public holidays dates back to the Soviet times. However, pardon tradition creates corruption within the penitentiary system, with many convicts trying to evade imprisonment by bribing officials in return of being included in pardon lists. This in turn results in well-off people not getting intimidated from committing crimes due to the existence of pardon-life buoy.
