On the instruction of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a government commission chaired by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov has been formed to identify and eliminate the causes of a large-scale power outage in the country, the Ministry of Energy said.
The commission was instructed, first of all, to restore the process of generation and power supply to consumers by supplying electricity to high and low-voltage electrical networks.
Officials of the energy industry have been given a number of tasks to prevent recurrence of failures, identify causes, develop measures to ensure the stability of power supply and implement them immediately.
“The Uzbek energy system, being part of a single provinceal energy system, has an accident protection system at the Tashkent and Syrdarya thermal power plants (TPP), which, in the event of a threat, automatically turns off both stations. Their shutdown, in turn, had a negative impact on the work of the Talimarjan and Turakurgan TPPs,” the report says.
Power outages affected Tashkent and Tashkent province, Ferghana Valley, Syrdarya, Jizzakh, Samarkand, Bukhara and Kashkadarya provinces.
“The energy system of Uzbekistan operates in parallel with the energy system of Central Asia. Malfunctions in one or another area of the system can save other areas from an accident or, conversely, adversely affect its stable operation. The emergency relay protection and automation system is a technical and engineering condition implemented to ensure the stability of the power system, preventing various malfunctions and fires in the system.
The supply of electricity to the provinces of the country is gradually being restored. Energy supply now began through the Charvak, Khodzhikent and Tavaksay hydroelectric power plants in the Tashkent province, Navoi thermal power plant in the Navoi province, Takhiatash thermal power plant in Karakalpakstan and Fergana thermal power plant in the Fergana province.
