On January 12, the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Central Asia Rebecca Zimmerman, on behalf of Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin and officials of the US defense department, congratulated all Uzbeks and military personnel on the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan.

Rebecca Zimmerman said that support for the sovereignty and independence of Uzbekistan has always been and remains the cornerstone of defense cooperation between the two countries, Dunyo said.

The United States values Uzbekistan as a strategic partner and recognizes its contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting security and stability in Central Asia.

She stressed that over the past 30 years, significant progress had been made between the two countries in the field of security.

“Our military regular hold joint drills, exchange information and look for ways to deepen military-technical cooperation in a wide range of areas. Joint U.S.-Uzbek engagement programs aim to counter transnational threats, including countering terrorism and drug trafficking, securing borders, professionalizing security forces, and promoting the rule of law,” said Rebecca Zimmerman.

She added that the United States highly appreciates Uzbekistan's contribution to stability in Afghanistan during the two decades of US military operations. Uzbekistan was one of the first regional partners to support that a stable, secure and reliable Afghanistan enhances security in Central Asia.

“We appreciate that Uzbekistan continues to deepen its relationship with the United States and its regional partners to build Afghanistan and fight terrorists so that they cannot again use the territory of this country to plan attacks on the United States or our allies and partners. Now, more than ever, we must continue to look for opportunities to strengthen peace and security in the region,” said Rebecca Zimmerman.

She emphasized that Uzbekistan, together with neighboring countries, will continue to lead in security issues, and the United States is ready to support regional cooperation in Central Asia.

“Congratulations again to the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan, I look forward to personally celebrating 30 years of defense relations between the United States and Uzbekistan in the near future,” Rebecca Zimmerman concluded her video message.
