The omicron coronavirus strain in Uzbekistan was confirmed in a foreign citizen who arrived from Dubai, the Deputy Minister of Innovative Development Shahlo Turdikulova said.

Omicron was identified on January 7 in the laboratory of the Center for Advanced Technologies (CAT) under the Ministry of Innovative Development. The Ministry of Health announced this on January 9. On this day, countering the spread of omicron was discussed at a meeting of the Special Anti-COVID-19 Commission.

“Given the rapid spread of omicron around the world, its appearance in Uzbekistan was a matter of time,” Shahlo Turdikulova noted. “The good news is that the Uzbek-Chinese vaccine [ZF-UZ-VAC2001], the most popular in our country, shows excellent efficiency degree in relation to the new strain based on the findings of studies.”

“As the head of the Center for Advanced Technologies, which is actively involved in the ZF-UZ-VAC2001 trials and in the study of viral mutations, I can say that the booster dose of the drug protects against omicron by almost 100%. This is also confirmed by our colleagues from China,” she added.

The commission also discussed the issue of swift vaccination of the population, including with booster doses of ZF-UZ-VAC2001.
