Paleolithic era monument was found at Mount Kohitang in Sherabad district of Surkhandarya province, the Academy of Sciences said in a statement on Thursday.
Archaeological field research was carried out by workers of the National Center for Archeology of the Academy of Sciences under the guidance of Professor Rustam Sulaymanov from November 25 to December 5.
In the interior of Mount Kohitang, there are numerous narrow gorges, in which many caves and grottoes have been formed as a result of geological processes, the statement said. One of these grottoes was used by ancestors of primitive man as seasonal shelters.
