Beloved children’s composer, the People's Artist of Uzbekistan Shermat Yormatov died at the age of 82, the Ministry of Culture said in a statement today.

Shermat Yormatov devoted 60 years to the music, mainly writing music for a children's choir.

Shermat Yormatov, 82, graduated from the faculty of choral conducting of the Tashkent State Conservatory.

He worked as a music teacher at school No. 99 in Tashkent and head of the Boychechak choir studio (trans. Lily) (1962−1982). He was the conductor of the choir of the National TV and Radio Company of Uzbekistan (1967-1970). From 1971 he worked as the artistic director and conductor of the children's ensemble "Bulbulcha" ("Nightingale") of the State Philharmonic.

Since the mid-1970s, he has hosted the TV show Qo’shigim, jon qo’shigim" (Song, my dear song) about children's songs and choral art. In addition, he was the author of the programs "Birgalikda kuylaymiz" (Let’s sing together), "Do, re, mi, fa, salt", "Sanat gunchalari" ("Sprouts of art"), which also promoted children's song art.

In 1997 he was awarded the title of People's Artist of Uzbekistan. In 1994 he was awarded the Soglom Avlod Uchun Order (1994).
