The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), within the framework of a $ 433,000 grant from the Japanese government, is implementing measures to improve the water supply, sanitation and hygiene (WSSH) system in primary health care institutions in the Termez district of the Surkhandarya province.

The program includes the construction of water pipes, the installation of water tanks, water softeners and filters, the construction and renovation of sanitary facilities, the installation of solar panels for electricity and hot water supply, as well as waste disposal facilities. The program will also support the development of ongoing operations and maintenance of modern WSSH infrastructure.

UNICEF will implement the project from March 2022 to February 2023. The project is expected to provide about 80,000 people in Termez district with access to improved WASH services in seven primary health care facilities and a reliable waste management system. They will also be provided with educational and informational materials on hygiene.
