St. Petersburg will host the informal CIS summit on December 28. Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russia President confirmed the preparation of a summit in person of the leaders of the CIS countries in St. Petersburg, Vedomosti said.
He also admitted that a bilateral meeting of the Presidents of Russia and Belarus Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko could take place on the sidelines of the event.
The Commonwealth of Independent States was established in 1991 after the collapse of the USSR. The CIS now includes nine countries - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
