Eight more Russian universities intend to open their branches in Uzbekistan, said the rector of Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy at the second Russian-Uzbek educational forum that opened at Moscow State University on November 16.

According to Viktor Sadovnichy, the opening of three branches is at the final stage of signing and "in the near future they will open their doors for Uzbek students."

Viktor Sadovnichy commended the significant upward trend of cooperation between the two countries. According to him, at the moment 63 roadmaps of scientific and educational cooperation are being implemented and more than 240 agreements have been signed between 115 universities.

The forum also reported that the quotas for free education in Russian universities for Uzbek students in the next academic year may increase to 750 places, which is three times more than in 2018. This was stated by the Minister of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of Uzbekistan Abdukodyr Toshkulov.

The Minister noted that over the past three years, the Russian authorities have been gradually increasing the annual scholarships to students for Uzbek students to study at Russian universities through the federal budget.

“We regard this as a significant contribution made by the Russian side to the training of qualified personnel for the economy of our country,” added Abduqodir Toshkulov.

According to the Russian side, the number of students from Uzbekistan studying at Russian universities today is at 43,000. Over the past three years, the number of branches of Russian universities in the republic has grown from 4 to 14, and a representative office of RUDN University has also been opened in Tashkent.
