On November 15, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with the presentation of Tashkent transport infrastructure development projects, the presidential press service said.
At the presentation, it was announced plans to build an underground metro line from the Buyuk ipak yuli station to the TTZ (Tashkent Tractor Plant) area, as well as to implement the second stage of the construction of the aboveground ring metro.
Two options for laying an underground line are on the table - through Mirzo Ulugbek Street or Buyuk Ipak Yuli Street. The President reviewed the project proposals.
According to provisional estimates, in the first case, the length of the line will be 8.6 km, carrying capacity - 62 thousand passengers per day. In the second, the length of the section will be 8 km, carrying capacity - 55 thousand passengers per day. The construction work is expected to last for five years.
The second stage of the overground (elevated) metro provides for the laying of more than 11 km of overground tracks from the Kuylyuk massif to station No. 5 of the Sergeli line. It is planned that the line will consist of seven stations, with a capacity of 38 thousand passengers per day.
A project was also presented to expand the overground line from Babur Street to the Tashkent International Airport with the construction of a ring-shaped bypass bridge.
During the presentation, the technical and economic aspects of these projects were discussed, the head of state made recommendations for finalizing the projects in terms of convenience, safety and quality, the report says.
About the metro extension project to TTZ area
Plans to extend the Chilanzar line to the TTZ area were unveiled at the end of December last year. Then the project proposed a line with a length of 7.9 km, including four stations. Construction was to be carried out for 2021-2023. It was expected that this decision will increase passenger traffic by another 50 thousand people per day.
During the presentation to the president, the Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov then reminded that a German tunnel boring machine was available for conducting closed construction works.
Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov said that "a very important part of this project is the development of tourism."
Shavkat Mirziyoyev warned that the government must convince him of the effectiveness, quality, cost of the project, then he will discuss the sources of funding. According to him, he knows these places well (Shavkat Mirziyoyev worked as the Mirzo-Ulugbek district mayor in 1992-1996).
“I know what's below and above. But we really need this. Our people, who live there in close quarters, suffer a lot. There are more and more traffic jams in these places. Especially on Saturday and Sunday it is almost impossible to travel,” he said.
The President also asked the Prime Minister to re-analyze and determine how best to build - elevated or underground metro.
