Uzbekistan and the European Union are planning to create a hub in Termez for humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The President’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev and his EU counterpart Thomas Niklasson discussed Afghanistan in Brussels on October 15.

Thomas Niklasson reportedly highly valued Uzbekistan’s assistance in evacuating citizens of the EU countries from Afghanistan and expressed interest in further advancing cooperation with Uzbekistan in establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The parties also exchanged views on the development of a consolidated stance of the international community - both in relation to the new Afghan authorities and prevention of a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

"The parties expressed mutual interest in continuing consultations," the Uzbek Foreign Ministry added.

Earlier the UN decided to locate that the main logistics center of the UN’s World Food Program (WFP) in Termez for providing assistance to Afghanistan,.

In October the Termez Cargo Logistics Center received over 100 tons of humanitarian aid destined for Afghanistan from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
