The first summit of the Organization of Turkic States, which was created in place of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States, will be held in 2022 in Uzbekistan. This decision was made at the eighth summit of the Turkic Council in Istanbul on November 12, the presidential press service said.
Reportedly, at the summit, the theme of which was "Green technologies and smart cities in the digital age", more than 10 documents were adopted, including the Final Declaration of the summit and the "Vision of the Turkic World-2040". The chairmanship in the organization passed from Azerbaijan to Turkey.
The agenda of the summit included issues of expanding cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, green economy, digital technologies, transport and communications, as well as education and culture.
Speaking at the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced Uzbekistan's full support for the historic decisions to rename the Turkic Council and grant Turkmenistan the status of an observer state.
He proposed to declare 2022 in the Turkic world as the Year of Support for Youth Initiatives. This issue may become the main topic of the next summit.
The members of the organization are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan (since 2019). Prior to that, one state had observer status - Hungary.
