The President Shavkat Mirziyoyev today made a video address for the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. Shavkat Mirziyoyev touched upon the situation in Afghanistan and emphasized that this country is an integral part of the Central Asia.
“Not only we - the neighboring countries, but the whole world is interested in the peace in this country. Uzbekistan has always strived to provide all possible assistance to the Afghan people. We recently opened the Uzbek-Afghan border and resumed deliveries of food, oil products and electricity to this country,” he said.
According to him, "in the current difficult period, it is impossible to let the isolation of Afghanistan, to leave it alone with the existing huge problems."
The President recalled that last year Uzbekistan proposed to create a permanent committee on Afghanistan under the UN.
“I am convinced that the UN must play an enhanced role in the Afghan crisis and its voice must sound louder than ever,” he said.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev, speaking at the SCO summit on September 17, called for dialogue with the new government in Afghanistan and offered to unfreeze Afghan assets in foreign banks.
On September 14, the government of Uzbekistan sent 1,300 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. The press service of the Surkhandarya province governor’s office clarified that the cargo was delivered by train of 25 cars and included flour, oil, meat, rice and other essential goods, as well as medical products and children's knitwear.
