On September 18, a presentation of uniforms and service cars of Ecopolice was held in Tashkent’s Ecopark, the Tashkent City Police Department (TCPD).
An unit of the Eco-Police has been operating as an experiment in Tashkent since beginning of September. The environmental control groups include employees of the Patrol and Guards Service, the Road Traffic Poilce and the State Committee for Ecology.
They were formed the day after a meeting chaired by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, when he announced the creation of an Eco-police within the police authorities.
The responsibilities of the new structure will include preventing violations in the field of ecology, including illegal felling of trees, poaching, waste disposal and others.
According to the TCPD, the regulatory and legal documentation regarding the Eco-Police is still at the stage of development and approval.
