The UN Deputy Secretary General, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Ghada Wali will visit Uzbekistan in November. An agreement on this was reached in Vienna during her talks with the Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva, the Senate reported.
The main theme of the talks were the expansion of cooperation in the field of combating drug trafficking and organized crime.
During the visit to Tashkent, a new UNODC Program for Central Asian countries for 2022-2025 is expected to be adopted. The program will strengthen the capacity of law enforcement agencies to investigate violations in the field of human trafficking, counter corruption, and prevent drug addiction as part of activities to strengthen family values, the report said.
“The UNODC Regional Office in Tashkent is the largest foreign office of the organization. This testifies to the importance of our interaction with Uzbekistan,” Ghada Vali emphasized.
She welcomed the "decisive steps" of the country's leadership in the fight against corruption, on the complete eradication of child and systemic forced labor, as well as combating human trafficking.
She also expressed support for Uzbekistan’s initiatives on interdepartmental and cross-border cooperation, which play an important component in ensuring regional security against the background of the events unfolding around Afghanistan.
In Vienna, the parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Tanzila Narbaeva is attending the 13th Summit of Women Speakers and the 5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments.
