On September 9, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on expanding support for gifted youth studying and researching at Uzbek universities.
According to the document, from the 2021-2022 academic year, the quota of the state presidential scholarship for doctoral students enrolled in basic doctoral studies and graduate students will double - to 10 and 22, respectively, and 1 scholarship is introduced for each university for undergraduate students.
For gifted students of Karakalpakstan, state scholarships are established named after the Hero of Uzbekistan, People's Writer of Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan Tulepbergen Kaipbergenov and named after the Hero of Uzbekistan, People's Poet of Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan Ibroyim Yusupov.
The state presidential scholarship and state personal scholarships are also being introduced for undergraduate students enrolled in universities and in branches of foreign and non-state universities. State scholarships include scholarships named after Beruni, Ibn Sino, Navoi, Kamoliddin Behzod and Ulugbek.
The preliminary stage of the competition for state scholarships is conducted by the university itself. Applicants recommended for the next stage of the competition are determined with the participation of professors, teachers and students.
Winners of state presidential and personal scholarships shall be admitted without examinations an additional state grant to the graduate studies of a state university in the corresponding department of a bachelor's degree and a related specialty.
The Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education was instructed to ensure the holding of the preliminary stage of competitions for scholarships by universities "on the basis of transparency, fairness and at a high level."
