Scientists at the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics of the Academy of Sciences have developed an edible vaccine against COVID-19 from tomatoes.
One of the experts in an interview with the program explained how the vaccine "works".
“If we eat this tomato, it goes into stomach, where tomato cells are digested and form an antigen. We took a coronavirus found in Uzbekistan, cloned a part of the crown and inserted it into a plant cell. We have tested and found that the vaccine is actually released from the plant cells, ”he said.
According to him, food-based vaccines are being developed in Russia and Canada. For example, an “edible” vaccine based on lactic acid bacteria (fermented baked milk vaccine) is being tested in St. Petersburg, and a plant vaccine against the CoVLP coronavirus based on Benham tobacco has been developed in Canada. It was grown in a greenhouse environment, after which its sprouts were infected with genetically modified bacteria Agrobacterium tumefaciens.
The Minister of Innovative Development Ibrokhim Abdurakhmanov announced the implementation of another project to develop vaccines with the participation of the International Center for Molecular Allergology of Uzbekistan and the University of Vienna.
"If cattle receive a vaccine against coronavirus, immunoglobulin A is produced in their milk. If this milk is pasteurized and drunk without boiling, then immunoglobulin A entering the body will fight the coronavirus," the head of the Ministry of Innovations explained.
