The President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the Russian President Vladimir Putin Sunday, the presidential press service reported.

During the conversation, the parties reviewed the issues of "further advancing the Uzbek-Russian relations of strategic partnership and alliance ties, as well as the expansion of multifaceted cooperation."

The two leaders also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan.

"An agreement was reached on the continuation of close contacts and interaction between the relevant departments of the two countries on issues of ensuring regional security and stability," the message says.

According to the Kremlin press service, the heads of state "thoroughly discussed the development of the situation in Afghanistan."
