On June 17, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the ceremony of laying the first stone at the construction site of the New Andijan city, the presidential press service said.
In the densely populated Andijan province, the housing issue is acute. During a previous trip to the province, the president proposed to build a new city on the undeveloped hilly terrain of the Andijan province. The city project, developed jointly with Turkish specialists, was presented on April 12.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev called the construction a historical event. “For two or three years now I have been haunted by the solution of the housing problem in Andijan. There is not much land here, the demand for housing has only increased over the years. There are many families in which the mother-in-law lives in the same house with several daughters-in-law. Therefore, we decided to act with the expectation of the future and started building a new city. Apartment buildings with more than 130 thousand apartments will be built here, over 450 thousand people will live,” the President said.
The total area of the city will be 4,000 hectares, of which 2,000 will be occupied by housing, social facilities, industrial zones, and service facilities. Green zones will be created for another 2,000 hectares on the instructions of the president.
The new city project will be implemented in 8 stages and is designed for 2021-2041. This year, US$ 100 million will be allocated from the Fund for Reconstruction and Development for the initial stage of building infrastructure. 33 km of drinking water supply networks, 52 km of highways, 18 km of power grids and 27 km of a gas pipeline will be built.
At the first stage, 170 multi-storey buildings with 3310 apartments, a school for 1,680 children, a kindergarten for 385 children and a polyclinic for 200 visits per day will be erected. During the period of construction work, more than 10 thousand permanent jobs will be created, after the completion of construction - about 100 thousand permanent jobs in the industrial, trade, social and service sectors.
Noting that Andijan is the place where Zakhiriddin Babur was born and raised, the head of state stressed that the residents of Andijan are capable of great achievements with their knowledge and dedication.
“Today, embarking on such a huge creative work, we rely primarily on the strength of our brave and noble people, the rich knowledge and experience of our ancestors, on the determination of hardworking and generous Andijan residents,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
Then the president laid the first stone at the construction site of the new city.
“Glory to the Almighty for the fact that we have lived up to these days. I hope that New Andijan will become a prosperous place for a happy life. I sincerely congratulate all Andijan residents on this historic event, on this glorious ceremony,” the President said.
According to the presidential press service, by 2016, individual and two-story houses were built in Andijan province for 4,846 families. Over the past five years, 11,000 apartment buildings and 4,400 cottages have been built. This year, 271 multi-storey buildings with 6346 apartments are being built, as well as 2.5 thousand individual houses for mortgages.
