The next batch of AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine of 660 thousand doses will arrive in Uzbekistan in August, announced the head of the UNICEF office, Munir Mammadzade.

On March 17, the first batch of 660 thousand doses of AstraZeneca (Covishield) vaccine was delivered to Uzbekistan through the COVAX mechanism. In total, Uzbekistan will receive 2.256 million doses of AstraZeneca through COVAX.

UNICEF was slated to deliver an additional 1.596 million doses of AstraZeneca by the end of May. Later, Mammadzade told reporters that a new batch of AstraZeneca would arrive in Uzbekistan only in June due to the coronavirus outbreak in India, where the jab is being produced.

According to Mammadzadeh, all issues with the logistics of supplies and vaccine registration should be resolved by the end of July, while the upcoming batch of AstraZeneca was manufactured in Sweden.

“Therefore, it takes time to register this vaccine in Uzbekistan,” added Munir Mamadzade.
